In this post, we’ll correct a few earlier assumptions and update our predictions for July 2025 based on the latest facts. We’ll break down what’s changed in each region (Africa, Asia, Europe, Oceania, South America, and North America) and explain what it means for your case.

May & June 2025 DV Lottery Cut-Offs – Recap
May 2025:
- Africa (AF): 35,000 (with slight exceptions for Algeria, Egypt, and Morocco)
- Asia (AS): 6,500 (with Iran and Nepal around 6,450)
- Europe (EU): 16,000 (with exceptions for Russia at 15,950 and Uzbekistan at 9,000)
- North America (BAHAMAS): 20
- Oceania (OC): 1,550
- South America & Caribbean (SA): 2,250
June 2025:
- Africa (AF): 42,500 (with Algeria at 42,250; Egypt at 36,250; Morocco remaining at 30,000)
- Asia (AS): 8,250 (with Iran and Nepal at 8,000)
- Europe (EU): 17,500 (with Russia at 17,450; Uzbekistan at 10,250)
- North America (BAHAMAS): 20
- Oceania (OC): 1,550
- South America & Caribbean (SA): 2,300
These June numbers indicate significant jumps for Africa and Asia, a modest increase for Europe, and minimal change for Oceania, South America, and North America. In practical terms, if your DV case number is below your region’s June cut-off, you’re either scheduled for an interview or soon to be scheduled. If your number falls above that, then you’re still waiting until the cutoff advances in a later bulletin.
Regional Analysis & Updated July 2025 Predictions
Africa (AF) – Rapid Movement, Nearly Current
Africa’s cutoff jumped from 35,000 in May to 42,500 in June—one of the biggest increases. This dramatic leap indicates that many African selectees below these thresholds have either been scheduled or were inactive, allowing the cutoff to advance quickly. While we previously thought Africa might reach “current” status by July, it may end up moving fully current in July or possibly August if only a small backlog remains.
Key Factors:
- A large number of African selectees still at NVC without interviews.
- Several embassies, such as Addis Ababa and Nairobi, have ramped up DV interview schedules.
July Prediction (Africa): The cutoff could rise further to around 50,000–55,000, or the region might be declared current. In either case, almost all active African cases should be processed in the coming months.
Asia (AS) – Steady Progress, But Country Caps Matter
Asia’s cutoff increased from 6,500 to 8,250 in June. Although this jump is significant, it is moderated by the fact that high-demand countries like Iran and Nepal face individual country caps (around 8,000).
Key Factors:
- High volumes in Iran and Nepal limit how quickly their numbers can advance due to the 7% per-country cap.
- A considerable number of Asian cases remain in administrative processing (AP/221(g)), slowing overall movement.
July Prediction (Asia): We expect a moderate increase. Selectees from other Asian countries might see cutoff numbers advancing into the low five figures (perhaps around 10,000–12,000), while Iran and Nepal might just reach the 9,000–10,000 range. Overall, steady progress continues.
Europe (EU) – Cautious Movement with Room for a Substantial Jump
Europe’s cutoff improved modestly from 16,000 to 17,500 in June. While this isn’t as dramatic as Africa’s move, Europe’s situation is different due to a larger pool of selectees (over 28,000) and inherent processing delays.
Key Factors:
- A significant volume of selectees, many of whom are still waiting, means that high case numbers (in the 30,000s or 40,000s) might never get an interview.
- A solid number of interviews have been scheduled (with the highest issued case number at nearly 16,000), but the overall trend suggests the need for a bigger jump as the cycle winds down.
July Prediction (Europe): We foresee a more substantial jump, with the cutoff potentially reaching into the mid-20,000s for July 2025. However, final cutoffs may eventually settle in the low-to-mid 30,000s if not all cases get processed before the fiscal year ends.
South America & Caribbean (SA) – Nearly Current
South America’s cutoff moved from 2,250 in May to 2,300 in June—a tiny but critical increase. This minimal movement indicates that the region is already close to using its allocated visas.
Key Factors:
- A high percentage of selectees have already been processed.
- Limited room for movement suggests that nearly every active case will get an interview soon.
July Prediction (South America): The cutoff may further increase to around 2,400–2,500, or the region might be declared current. If you’re within or just above the current cutoff, expect your interview notification very soon.
North America (NA) – Essentially Current
North America, consisting primarily of the Bahamas for DV purposes, remains unchanged at a cutoff of 20. With very few selectees, this region is effectively current.
Key Factors:
- Extremely low volume ensures all eligible selectees are being processed promptly.
July Prediction (North America): No change is expected here. North America will remain current, and those selectees should receive their interviews without issue.
Final Observations & Tips
- Selectee Volume vs. Visa Supply: The over-selection ensures nearly all active cases in each region will eventually receive a visa—except for those with very high case numbers where the DV pool simply runs out.
- Processing Rates: Improvements in some regions, notably Africa, show rapid processing. In contrast, Asia is being moderated by country caps and administrative processing backlogs.
- Embassy Performance: Local embassy capacity matters. If you experience delays, contact your consulate or check your official DV communications.
- Be Prepared: Double-check that your DS‑260 is complete, your documents are in order, and you’re ready to respond promptly when contacted.
Our previous update provided an initial outlook, but the latest June data suggests adjustments across all regions. Africa’s rapid progress might see it declared current very soon; Asia continues its steady, moderated advance; Europe is set for a larger jump in July; Oceania and South America are nearly done; and North America remains current.
