Why June Predictions Didn’t Fully Match Today’s Bulletin
Our June post projected Europe to reach ~25k by August, but State set the line at 22k. Three factors explain the gap:
- Higher-than-expected June issuance: EU posts cleared a larger share of ready cases than anticipated, leaving fewer visas for August scheduling.
- Derivative surge: Average family size for EU interviews in May/June rose from 1.87 to 2.04, consuming quota faster than raw case counts indicated.
- Embassy capacity: Warsaw and Frankfurt hit scheduling ceilings, prompting KCC to hold numbers back to avoid over-allocation.
Elsewhere the forecasts held: Africa landed at the low end of our 50-55k window, Asia hit the 11k target, and SA/OC moved almost point-for-point.
Regional Case Summary
Region | Total Cases | Issued | Highest Issued Case | Total Refused | Total AP |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
AF | 86,709 | 12,987 | 41,644 | 1,021 | 172 |
AS | 29,918 | 4,337 | 8,238 | 278 | 14 |
EU | 41,009 | 11,375 | 17,489 | 319 | 7 |
OC | 3,805 | 625 | 1,544 | 100 | 2 |
SA | 4,175 | 1,213 | 2,298 | 133 | 3 |
*“Highest Issued Case” = largest case number with at least one visa issued.
Overall DV-2025 Case Status Snapshot

- Refused: 1,851 cases
- Refused 221(g): 2,948 cases
- Administrative Processing: 198 cases

Observations & Advice for Selectees
- Africa: With a 5k jump, virtually all numbers below 50k will interview; high-50k cases should watch the September bulletin closely.
- Asia: Iran/Nepal caps still bind. If you’re under 11k, ensure your DS-260 is complete and documents are scanned.
- Europe: The cautious 22k suggests a final jump, likely to 24–26k, in September. High-20k cases need a backup plan.
- Oceania: Slow but steady; expect “current” in September if issuance pace holds.
- SA & Caribbean: Now only 2,600, virtually current. Expect full current next month.
- North America (Bahamas): Remains current all year.

Final Thoughts
DV-2025 is in the home stretch. Africa and Asia look poised to clear, Europe faces one last sprint, and the smaller regions should all be current by September 30. If your case is below the predicted September line, keep your email and spam folders checked daily—2NLs can arrive with little notice. High-number cases, particularly in Europe, should prepare contingency plans but stay hopeful: late-cycle jumps are common once State finalises no-shows and visa reallocations.

Am DV 2025 selectees case no. AF20XXX when am I likely to be scheduled for an Interview?
Beth,
Your case number (AF20XXX) became current in January 2025 according to the Visa Bulletin. Did you submit your DS-260 form last year? If you haven’t submitted it or submitted it late, that could explain the delay. Also, check your Entrant Status Check (ESC) portal at https://dvprogram.state.gov/ESC/ to see if you missed any important notifications or interview instructions. If your DS-260 wasn’t submitted in time or if any required steps are missing, that might have affected your scheduling. If you’re unsure, you may want to contact KCC or seek help from a qualified immigration professional.
Hi. Are you planning to share your expectations for the current cutoff based on the CEAC data?
Baur,
The government doesn’t release official CEAC data, and the websites that scrape the CEAC portal often miss cases or have incomplete information, so the numbers you see online aren’t fully reliable. The only source that matters is the monthly Visa Bulletin. As soon as the August 2025 bulletin is published tomorrow, I’ll share my analysis and the September cutoff. This is just for general information, not legal advice.
Hello, how do you know the visa bulletin will be released the 8th of July?
Rim,
It’s because the Visa Bulletin is almost always released on the second Tuesday of each month, and for August 2025, that date falls on the 8th. This pattern has been consistent for years.
Hi, do you know what day September VB will be released ?
Tonio,
The August Visa Bulletin and September cut-off will be released on July 8, 2025.
Hello, how can Africa cut off shift from 50k just to 51k in the last bulletin? When Africa is still having lots of visas left. How can that be possible plus many countries that are in the travel band and restriction. Don’t you think instead of this the region can become current or live from 50k to maybe 70k plus?
Junior,
I completely get why this situation feels confusing, on paper, there really do seem to be a lot of unused DV visas for Africa, and it’s natural to expect a much bigger jump in the final cut-off or even for the region to go current. But the reality is that, as the year wraps up, it all comes down to logistics and timing at the embassies, not just the raw number of visas left.
Right now, most of the busiest embassies in Africa are fully booked through the end of the DV year. There are plenty of cases still waiting, but a huge portion of them are either stuck in processing, haven’t been marked ready, or just can’t physically be scheduled for interviews before September 30. No matter how many visas remain in theory, if the embassies can’t squeeze in more appointments, the cut-off just won’t move much.
As for the impact of travel bans, while they technically do open up some numbers, those unused visas don’t immediately get reallocated to other applicants late in the year. By the time the government knows which cases really can’t proceed, it’s often too late to fill those spots with new interviews.
So the small move from 50,000 to 51,500 isn’t about the demand or supply, it’s simply about what the system can handle in the little time that’s left. I know it’s disappointing, but after looking at all the data, it really does come down to the real-world limits of embassy scheduling, not just the number of visas on the books.
Do I stand any chance with case number 2025AS154XX? I’m currently in the U.S. and exploring options for Adjustment of Status
Hi,
It’s unfortunately very unlikely that you’ll become current this year. I wish I had better news, but at this point, your number is outside the range of what’s considered possible for DV-2025.
Hello, thanking you for the answers you give us, if it is possible, please inform me: In the hope that no. EU 234xx becomes current, does the interview date come to the e-mail I have set or should I open my case, because many people have complained about the lack of an e-mail with the interview date, but they have gone through the documentation process. It is about the TIA embassy, if it is possible, please inform me how to proceed if the email for the interview does not come but the number becomes current?
Ellas,
Thanks for your question! If your EU23xxx number becomes current in September 2025 and you are assigned to TIA (Tirana) embassy, you should receive your 2NL (second notification letter) by email, usually sent to the address you used for your DS-260. However, sometimes these emails can end up in spam or don’t arrive at all, and this is a pretty common concern.
If you see that your number is current on the Visa Bulletin but you haven’t received an email, don’t panic. Just log in directly to the Entrant Status Check (ESC) website, the same place where you checked your initial DV result. If your interview is scheduled, the appointment details and date will always be posted there first, regardless of whether you got the email. Checking the ESC regularly is the safest way to stay updated.
If your case becomes current and you don’t see any appointment after some days, it’s also perfectly fine to contact the KCC or the U.S. embassy in Tirana for clarification. But usually, as long as you’re checking the ESC, you won’t miss your interview date. Good luck!
Hello
What is the progress status for the Sydney consulate at the moment ?
Are there backlogs? Is the interview moving according to pace? What’s the highest case number intervened at the Sydney consulate?
Thank you
Mia,
There are currently 57 cases waiting for interviews, which is a typical backlog at this stage. Sydney is processing cases up to the current Oceania cutoff and there is no evidence of unusual delay or a large backlog, interviews appear to be progressing normally for the region.
Thanks for your content!!
I’m DV25 selectee EU267xx, hoping to get an interview for September in Frankfurt.
So far Frankfurt hasn’t scheduled a single interview for August.
Question: Do you have any insider information about embassy backlogs? Thanks 😊
Nadine,
There are 62 cases in the backlog at Frankfurt. The embassy has paused scheduling while it waits for the final September cutoff. No other information can be provided at this time. Thank you.
Do you think now that number 2025EU296×× is certain ?
Alb,
My best estimate is that the cutoff will land somewhere between 26,000 and 28,000 for Europe. I’d say you have a good shot, but until the official September bulletin is published, there’s always a small chance the cutoff could fall just short. So it’s hopeful, but not a total guarantee, definitely keep watching for the official release.
